KONAMI - E3 2002

Konami has had one of the best booths at the show in some recent E3 appearances.  This year was solid, but no massive surprises were shown.  Perhaps the game of most interest was Metal Gear Solid 2: substance, which was not seen on any game stations, instead segments from the game were turned into an entertaining movie for patrons to view on a large screen.  In other very interesting news, my curiosity was peaked while playing a PC version of the original Castlevania.  A discussion with a Konami designer who is currently developing a game that was not at the show, and was told to keep details of his project under wraps.  He was an old school gamer and fan of Castlevania.  I told him I remember a early Dreamcast version of the game and he sort of smirked.  I'll keep in touch with him, because now I am really curious.  We'll see!

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java(tm). Metal Gear Solid 2: substance - This game is a little early, as no playable versions were on the show floor.  It looks to be an extension of the original game, not a sequel.  In this version there are VR missions and the ability to play through the game as the ninja, and possibly some other goodies.  The game is also coming out for the X-box, so that will be the version to get.  Odds are (given that it wasn't playable and long development times) this game won't be ready until we see it at next year's E3.  Looks good, and a little goofy (with the skateboard stuff).  We'll no more in the months ahead.

Contra - The contra series finally makes a comeback after a long vacation!  Game play is classis, except it is set in a 3D.  The version of the show floor was detailed and multi-player, and very very difficult!  Like the old Contra games, one shot and you were toast.  The enemy throws a lot of firepower at you so I ended up dying like 15 times in 7 minutes.  there are a limited number of continues, so players will have to learn patterns and play smart if they want to complete this game.  This PS2 title captured the classic feel, so I think fans will enjoy the latest itteration.
