SIERRA - E3 2000
For the past several years,
Sierra has made an above average showing at their booth. This year
things look better than ever, as they had many high quality games to
show. To my surprise, they had a game called "Ground
Control" that really floored me. It looked nice in screen
shots, but the game is simply awesome after playing it for a few
minutes. Unfortunately, Team Fortress, one of Sierra's (Valve)
hottest games shown at last year's E3 was a no-show this year. Team
Fortress is still on track, according to Sierra reps, to be released by
the end of the year. In addition to the products highlighted below, there were
other solid titles that will help keep Sierra on top of this industry.

Ground Control -
I admit it, I am a hardcore real time
strategy gamer. Although I prefer to play these kind of games,
I am not bias toward the genre. I have been disappointed by
several RTS (real time strategy) games, Lucas Arts 'Force Commander' comes immediately to
mind. With some reluctance, I took a peak at Sierra Studios
'Ground Control'. After about 5 minutes of playing the
tutorial, I was in total shock. This game is sweet.
The game is 100% 3D, and finally, the camera control is easy and intuitive.
Controlling your units is simple and is influenced by the best of
all the other RTS games out there. Graphics are drop dead gorgeous
and combat is tactical and full of strategy. Excellent game! |

Tribes 2 -
Tribes, a Quake style game
focusing on team combat made headways a couple years ago
when it was released. Tribes 2, now well over a year
into development is looking to be a solid sequel.
Expect more of the same, with better graphics and
presentation. A built in chat program will help
gamers communicate with team members. Other enhancements
include a terrain editor, new weapons and vehicles to use,
and a brand new 3D engine to help with the massive maps
that will be in the game. 1st person shooter fans
and gamers looking for a good multiplayer game should not
overlook this game.

Nascar 4 -
Take a look at the
screenshot. If the awesome graphics are not enough
to convince you this is the best racing game simulator
on the market, then maybe some of the new features
will. Most importantly, this version of Nascar has
the 3D physics engine used to help 'Grand Prix Legends',
providing a realistic model for the cars. Now, the
possibility of rolling your car is very possible if you are not
careful. New driver options including traction
control, antilock brakes and a cool innovation that will
prevent drivers from over steering. This game is
easily the best Nascar game out there. Oh yeah, my cousin
Blaise Alexander will be in the game too, because the
Busch Series will be included as well.
