MATELL - E3 2000

The Mattel booth was well hidden and off of the main show floor.  Surprisingly, their booth was huge and had tons of games.  The best of their games consisted of a nice looking real time strategy game called Earth 2150 and a sequel to the Myst series.

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java(tm). Earth 2150 - There are a lot of real time strategy (RTS) games out there, many of which are average.  Matell has a solid looking RTS game on their hands by the name Earth 2150.  Graphically, it is very nice.  As you play the game the time changes from day to night and back again.  As night falls the base and the vehicles use great looking lighting effects.  There is also a variety of weather effects, all of which give the game an 'emotional' type of feel, something many games lack.  Blowing up a nuclear power plant looks sweet, and oddly enough, is perhaps the best looking explosion in any RTS game on the market.  One downside may be that unit control feels a bit clunky, but the game still has some time until it is released, so perhaps control will be improved before the game is released.  One of the better RTS games at the show!

Myst 3 - Currently slated for a 1st quarter release in 2001, is Myst 3 being developed by Presto Studios.  Myst 3 is not straying from the path that made the series successful.  Like previous Myst titles, gamers will be able to explore a new awesome looking fantasy world, with 5 new ages to explore.  Gamers will delve into the game to uncover the mystery of a new villain, who supposedly came from a home world destroyed by Sirrus and Achenar.  I'm not sure what the secret recipe is that made the previous Myst games such blockbuster sellers, but the same recipe is being used here, so expect Myst 3 to be a big hit.  Myst 3 will be available for Mac and PC.
